Day 1 will be presented by psychologists Dr. Jody Carrington and Dr. Marlene Moretti of Alberta and BC respectively. They will orient attendees to what attachment is and the research on it. Then, through hands-on exercises they will help those who work with teens and their families learn new skills and approaches to support them. These dynamic speakers will also help connect the research and their approach to work with Indigenous Canadian youth and those involved with the child welfare system. In the morning of Day 2, social worker and author Pat Harvey will present on helping parents of teens engage with them and support their teens to support their mental health. Using anecdotes and examples, this presentation is sure to be eye-opening. The afternoon of Day 2 will be devoted to more local connections, with Laurie McPherson formerly of the WRHA speaking to to the link between positive adolescent attachment and mental health. After the break an interdisciplinary discussion panel moderated by Laurie, and featuring local clinical and school psychologists Connie Boutet and Jenine Scott, which is sure to be engaging and motivating!
