The MASP Award of Excellence:

The Award

1. The award will consist of an engraved plaque.

2. The cost of the award and engraving will be paid by MASP.

 

Members in good standing are invited to submit nominations for the first MASP Award of Excellence.

 

The award was approved at the executive level with the following criteria:

1. The award is to be called The MASP Award of Excellence.

2. The criteria for the award are as follows:

    (a) Outstanding contribution in the practice of psychology in the school setting,

                                            and/or

    (b) Outstanding contribution and/or innovation resulting in a qualitative change in the lives of children and/or adolescents

3. The award will be presented at the spring AGM. The call for nominations will follow the annual AGM with a cut off date for submissions 3 months prior to the presentation itself (i.e., March 1). This award will be preserved for outstanding achievement or contribution; therefore, it may not be presented each year.

4. The selection committee will consist of the president, the past president and 2 members from the general membership to represent as broad a spectrum as possible.

5. A letter of commendation will be sent to the employer of the recipient of this award to recognize the contributions of the individual. The recipient also will receive a prestigious framed certificate on which is written:

 

The Manitoba Association of School Psychology presents the MASP Award of Excellence to ___________ in recognition for their outstanding contribution in ______________

 

6. The executive may decide if they wish to broaden receipt of this award to include groups as well as individuals.

 

Administrative Procedures

 

1. All nominations are strictly confidential.

2. Only MASP members in good standing are eligible to make nominations.

3. Nomination forms and procedures are available on the MASP website (see below).

4. Nominations must be received by the MASP President 3 months prior to the annual meeting.

5. Upon receipt of the nomination, the President will maintain the nominations in a confidential MASP Award file.

6. The nominations committee consisting of the President, Past President, and 2 selected MASP members will review nominees and make their selection which will be announced at the annual general meeting.

7. The Past President will communicate the committee’s decision to the selected nominee and enquire if she/he/they will accept the award.

8. Completed applications of nominees who are not recipients will be returned, with an accompanying letter of explanation by the immediate past president.

9. Nominees not selected for the MASP award can be re-submitted but must be dated within the current year and completed like any nomination.

 

The Committee

 

1. Committee members are the President, Past President, and 2 selected MASP members in good standing.

2. The committee is convened by the Past President of MASP.

3. If any member of this committee is nominated for the MASP award, she/he will withdraw from the committee during the selection process and resume being a committee member the year following.

4. All committee discussions pertaining to the applications for the MASP award are strictly confidential. The committee’s decisions are final.

 

Publicity and Promotion

 

1. Applications must be received 3 months prior to the annual meeting.

2. Establishment of the award will be placed in the Spring newsletter issue.

3. A reminder of application deadline will be placed in the MASP Fall/Winter issue.

4. Immediately following presentation of the award, the committee will purchase an ad in the Winnipeg Free Press. The ad will include a photo of the recipient and a brief explanation of the award. The cost will be paid by MASP as budgeted.

5. A news release and photograph will be mailed to other newspapers.
