Membership Procedure – NEW!

Please note the changes we have made to the application/renewal process.  Applicants can apply/renew online using the login “Registration” system and can make payment using a credit card (via Paypal). Membership Categories:

There are currently four categories of membership within the Association:

  1. Full membership
  2. Affiliate membership
  3. Retired membership
  4. Student membership

Full and retired members have all the benefits of membership which include the right to vote on all motions presented to the membership for ratification and the right to hold elected office within the Association. Affiliate and Student members have all the benefits of membership except the rights to vote and to hold elected office.

Membership Requirements:

Full Member

 Criteria for membership in this category includes either of the following:

  • Those who are certified by Manitoba Education and Training to provide school psychology services to a school system within Manitoba, whether or not they are currently practicing within such a system;
  • Those who are not practicing school psychology within Manitoba but who have received a letter of eligibility by Manitoba Education and Training through a review of their credentials.

Affiliate Member

 Criteria for membership in this category includes either:

  • Practitioners in school psychology or allied professions who do not meet the requirements for Full membership status;
  • Those who qualify for Full membership status but who are not practicing school psychology within the province of Manitoba. The option of application for membership under either Full or Affiliate status is available to those meeting this criterion.

Student Member

 Membership in this category is open to graduate students in psychology at a recognized university.

Retired Member

 Membership in this category includes those who have been full members of MASP and have retired from practice.

Requirement Options

To apply for Full Member status, the applicant must present to the Membership Committee evidence that she/he currently possesses a Manitoba Provisional or Permanent School Clinician’s Certificate (Psychology), or a Letter of Eligibility as granted by Manitoba Education and Training. Both are obtained through the Professional Certification Branch of Manitoba Education and Training.

To apply for Affiliate Member or Student Member status, the applicant must present such information as is necessary for the Membership Committee to determine whether minimum qualifications for membership within either respective category has been met.

All disagreements concerning membership may be appealed by the applicant to the MASP Executive.

Fees and Renewal

The membership fees are (2011-2012) are:

  1. Full Member: One hundred dollars ($100.00) for annual dues.
  2. Affiliate Member: Fifty dollars ($50.00) for annual dues.
  3. Retired Member: Fifty dollars ($50.00) for annual dues.
  4. Student Member: Eighteen dollars ($18.00) for annual dues.

Annual dues cover the period from initial registration until March 31st 2011. Renewals for the 2011-2012 year will occur on or after April 1st 2011. This is not a change from previous years. Membership subscriptions and fees coincide with our fiscal year.

New applicants (who have never held a previous membership) who wish to join midway or more into the fiscal year, should contact the Membership Chair: Christiane Smith for details.

The MASP Constitution states that:

Annual dues are payable as of April 1st and shall be paid not later than May 31st in order for member to retain his/her good standing. Any member allowing his/her dues to lapse beyond May 31st will have to re-apply to MASP as a new member.
