MASP-SpringWorkshop2012 official brochure
We are pleased to announce that we have booked Dawn Flanagan to speak April 18 & 19th 2012 on the topic of learning disability identification and intervention. Dawn Flanagan is the author of the “Essentials of Specific Learning Disability Identification”, and a leader in the use of cross-batttery assessment to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses, and ultimately, pinpoint interventions for LD. This workshop is open to everyone, including those that are not members of MASP, and those that are not school psychologists.
Workshop focus:
This workshop will present the latest research on specific learning disabilities (SLD) in reading, mathematics, writing, and oral language, which provides the foundation for alternative research-based methods or “third-method” approaches to SLD identification. One third-method approach will be described in detail—the Cattell-Horn-Carroll–based operational definition of SLD. This method may be used within the context of an RTI service-delivery model and incorporates multiple data sources and methods for SLD determination. Through case study presentations, participants will learn how to identify individuals with SLD using current theory, research, and methods, with an emphasis on linking assessment findings to evidence-based educational strategies and interventions.

Just wondering if the Dawn Flanagan sessions on LD are open to educators beyond school psychologists. Would resource teachers or school administrators benefit from it and would they be able to attend if they registered?
Yes, the conference will be open to those other than School Psychologists. We will be posting a brochure with more information about the specific topic areas she will cover in the near future, and that should hopefully answer your question about who would benefit. You’ll also find information on the location and prices, etc. Please check back soon for the information. Thank-you for your inquiry!
