Assistive Technology Tool Selection Protocol

Date: April 23, 2019 AGM

Presenter: Todd Cunningham, Clinical and School Psychologist, and Assistant Professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto in the Department of Applied Psychology & Human Development

Sponsored by MASP, this was a hands-on workshop designed to teach participants how to use the Assistive Technology Tool Selection protocol ( that he has developed to enhance psychologists’ knowledge of Assistive Technology (AT) for students with Learning Difficulties. Dr. Cunningham has made the ATSelect tool available through a free open-access, online portal. The tool, based on research on the academic and cognitive profiles of students with learning difficulties, assists psychologists in identifying appropriate assistive technology that will be helpful in the learning environment given the barriers that students with learning difficulties may encounter. In addition to the research supporting the protocol, case studies that participants work through will be used to demonstrate how to use the ATSelect Protocol can be utilized to determine the tools that would benefit student learning.
